Turning the tables on project design

Web-D-Zine (WDZ) helps with projects that involve data that are stored in data bases. Looking at the data, you can use it to populate the data dictionary with all the data types that you need be it email addresses, phone number, names and links. Then you can use your data definitions to create the tables to store the data. For example lets look at a customer, the customer will have

  • Name - Can be split into salutation, first name and surname
  • Contact details - Email address, telephone number, mobile number etc.
  • Address - Postcode, county, country etc.

However, the customer may have more than one address for example the billing address and the delivery address, so in this case a customer key is required to link the addresses to the customer contact details. All of this information can be stored in tables along with what the customer bought, customer reviews and so much more.

In WDZ these tables and their interaction are the key elements that are needed in the design of the database. Once these tables are all defined along with the links of how the information is connected together, then once you have fed the design into WDZ, it is just a case of turning the WDZ key to produce

  • Base Classes - These store information in the database
  • User Classes - This is for user code
  • Panels - These display the information in lists and contain the forms so that users of the system can enter information
