To get my mojo going I have been reading about AI assistants, because they will be one of Web-D-Zine's(WDZ) competitors. So what I am finding is:-
- They are being pushed by some big names - So in a recent article that I was reading https://developers.slashdot.org/story/24/09/28/2132232/are-ai-coding-assistants-really-saving-developers-time, they were talking about Microsoft's AI coding assistant copilot. That is a big name in the computing world, but if the report is true and the AI assistant introduces bugs, and that is not good for the products that are produced by the assistant. Now Web-D-Zine(WDZ) will be pushed by one of the smallest names in computing, but that only makes us dedicated to producing a good product, because it will be our name that is on the line.
- They are introducing more bugs - In the article the number 41% was mentioned. So for every 100 bugs one group were producing, the other group were producing 41 more bugs, which is a significant figure. Now WDZ, does not report to be bug free, but it has been used in one form or other for nearly 40 years, which in computing is a hell of along time.
- AI tools do not reduce burn out - This is understandable, because the users are having to find more bugs. Now, there are no reports with regard to using WDZ, but one thing is for certain, you do have to stand back from the problem and really think about what you are producing before you turn the handle. Now I have learned that the more you stand back from a problem than be in it, the better, as you have time to think and time to analyse. Now WDZ produces all the boiler plate code, so that you can do the nice bits, which is always good.
- Removes tedious tasks - AI assistants "removes the tedious tasks like querying databases, writing model code, writing forms and processing forms, and a lot more". This is exactly what WDZ does, but with WDZ, the code is consistent, so is understandable.
- Does not help large projects - Admittedly the jury is still out on this one, but WDZ really comes into its own on large projects, so maybe a non-AI program can compete with the AI's of the world
So, the aim of the game is to produce code quickly and easily, now AI and WDZ both do that, but AIs are reporting bugs, while the jury is out with WDZ, once we have 800 programmers using it then we will know.
This is just something that made me laugh, but the image used is AI generated. WDZ is just not in this arena, WDZ will just help you write code.
