Thousands of people read and subscribe to magazines. For one company it was just under 40,000 subscribers that they wanted to manage. As a lot of the data about the subscribers was personal, the data was encrypted with in the data base. This meant that even if the data base was compromised in some way, then the data obtained would be of no value.
The problems came when searching the encrypted data, so a mechanism was devised so that each individual character was encrypted. That way, searching was still possible, while the data was encrypted.
Project outline
- Initial analysis of the data and the interaction of the various aspects of the data to each other - 2 days
- Initial coding using Web-D-Zine( WDZ ) - 1 day
- Form modification and List modification - 3 days
- Reports and other user modifications - 1 month
- User acceptance - 2 weeks
- Final modifications - 2 weeks
In this particular case the user wanted a lot of modifications as they needed reports written and they wanted to be able to assign certain records to certain users.
Addendum: The company that commissioned this work has since been sold and the system produced by WDZ tracking the 40,000 subscribers was one of the main assets of the company.
