Waddow Hall, just one location that might be booked for some training

Bookings for trainings or events can be quite complex, or they can be quite simple, so creating an event management system that can cope with the changing needs of a diverse group of people can be quite a challenge. Initially four basic questions were considered:-

  • Where is the booking for?
  • When is the booking for?
  • Who is making the booking?
  • What is the booking for?

Some of the answers to these questions were repeats, so creating a system that held that information so that it could be inserted quickly and easily, really helps the customer, by giving then a system that is easier and ultimately gives them less work to do.

  • Where is the booking for?
With hundreds of locations that can be booked for training, for example Waddow Hall (pictured) then having these locations in a table, standardises the addresses, as well as provide other people who are using the system vital information like contact details etc.
  • When is the booking for?
Dates and times, these will change for each training or event
  • Who is making the booking?
Contact details etc. and other information like food allergies
  • What is the booking for?
First aid training, other training, group events etc. A lot of these trainings are repeats, so having a facility where the user can just pick a particular training for example really helps them

On top of these considerations, there might be particular documents for the trainig or event. Bookings can be taken and an event can be split up into sessions. Lastly there needs to be reports on how popular a particular event was.
